Sleepy Sunday afternoon...
We'll have the Lord's Supper during evening service tonight. I wish we had it more often, but it does make it very special when we do? How often does your church have Communion? How often do you think churches should observe the Last Supper? Why do we have so many names for it? What is your favorite analogy/symblance in Communion? I think mine is the breaking of the bread showing how broken Christ's body was.
BonnieJean has been home since yesterday morning. We're positively eating her up! On the way home from the airport we stopped by Microtel to have BJ deliver an Orange Kream Koolie to Samuel. When Deb met BJ she gave Samuel the rest of the day off. Ain't she so sweet!
I had a lovely nap out on the trampoline. The kids were watching a video (3-2-1-Penguins, Moon Menace on Planet Tell-a-lie) and the weather was so beautiful outside (cool and breezy) and I was so sleepy. It was wonderful to feel the sun on my face and hear the birds sing (and roosters crowing... But I'm used to it.) The whole thing felt like a blanket of God's love and He felt so close. Now it's getting dark and still with a real stormy feel to it.
Today's Sunday school lesson was titled "Declaration of Dependence (that's the name of the series) on God's Protection." The scripture was the book of Habakkuk, specifically the first verses of chapter 1 and most of chapter 3. Read 1:1-3 from the Holman Christian Standard Bible. It sounds so much like my thoughts on our world situation.
The oracle that Habakkuk the prophet saw.
How long, Lord, must I call for help and you do not listen, or cry out to You about violence and You do not save? Why do You force me to look at injustice? Why do You tolerate wrongdoing? Oppression and violence are right in front of me. Strife is ongoing an dconflict escalates.
This is why the law is ineffective and justice never emerges. For the wicked restrict the righteous; therefore, justice comes out perverted.
And 2:1-4 in New American Standard Version.
I will stand on my guard post, and station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, and how I may reply when I am reproved.
Then the LORD answered me and said, "Record the vision and inscribe it on tablets, that the one who reads it may run.
For the vision is yet for the appointed time; It hastens toward the goal and it will not fail. Though it tarries, wait for it; For it will certainly come, it will not delay.
"Behold, as for the proud one, his soul is not right within him. But the righteous will live by his faith.
And then 3:17-19 in KJV.
Though the fig tree do not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls,
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
GOD, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like hinds' feet, he makes me tread upon my high places. To the choirmaster: with stringed instruments.
