A fellow at the RI bought a violin and only reads music, and wanted advice. This is what I posted.

Good investment! Violin is the best!

Work on your bow hand. Practice your stroke. I practice asking myself these questions. How long can you make a note last? How smooth and clear can you make it? Can you change from one string from another smoothly without squeaks? Except for vibrato, the whole emotion of a piece is in the bow.

Find a piano that's in tune. Try to make your note the same pitch as the piano's note. Move your finger around until you get it.

Here's your strings in relation to sheet music. Your bottom and lowest string is the G just before middle C. The next string is the D right after middle C. The next string is the first A after middle C. The next string is the second E after middle C.
