Relationships

From the beautiful and brilliant Amber Conley.

I believe that someone should pray about what God would have them to do in ALL areas of a relationship, about what to look for in a spouse, what a Godly relationship is, and to know what a relationship is NOT, like:
A relationship is not about you, it's about glorifying God. (If you can't say, "God, I bless this action" then you shouldn't do it.)
A relationship is not about matching clothes, looking cute together, being together constantly, or dreaming about each other constantly. That's called infatuation, not love.
A relationship isn't about what you can get from the other person.
A relationship isn't about physical attraction.
A relationship isn't about dominating the other person in order to feel adequate.

The sweet-nothings that come with loving someone - that stuff is the icing on the cake, but it won’t sustain you, and after too much, you get sick of it, and burnt out.

A relationship is a team effort, striving always to love each other with the love Christ so freely gives us.
A relationship is about serving the other person by PUSHING them towards Christ and towards those things which God considers good.
A relationship is about trusting God, and following Him at ALL costs, even if it means that the relationship has to go.
A relationship should be built off friendship, on Jesus, in the presence of your family and loved ones, and above all else bring God glory. (Psalms 34:3)

This is just my point of view. About a year ago, God really started working on my heart - and brought to my attention some lies that I had come to believe about relationships. Our culture is soaked with stuff about "finding that perfect person", "Learn to keep him/her when you catch them", "dating 101" and other stuff that simply confuses and leads to heartache in the end.
No one wants to be lonely... some people just date someone or lots of different people, without really liking them, just so it eases the loneliness.
But, Jesus is there, if we will simply remember to run to Him, hand him our burden, and let Him comfort us - He will! :)

"Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Chrit, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithfull, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." 1 Corinthians 1:6-9

"But as it is written: 'Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him." 1 Corinthians 2:9

"The preparations of the heart belong to man, but he answer on the tongue is from the Lord." Prov 16:1

"Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established." Prov 16:3

I hope this encouraged you :-)
