Randomness

I wish I had more time to keep up on the news. Used to be I read 5-10 political blogs a day and always knew everything going on. Over the past month (or longer) though I've remained mostly clueless with regards to the national and global scene. I guess 'clueless' is a relative term. I'm still better informed than the majority of the population. It's just a matter of how many hours I have a day and how much I have to get done. Political blogs are kinda low down on the priority list.

Speaking of hours-in-a-day (24, BTW. Just in case you were wondering.), I need to work on my time management, i.e. quit procrastinating and sleep less! I'm not getting done what all I should.

Also on the subject of time, I'm finishing up at work 30 to 60 minutes earlier these past 2 weeks than I have been before. Praise God! I can't really lay my finger on what exactly I'm doing different to account for that much time so I'm sure it's God's blessings!

Isaac has been reading the first Harry Potter book to me during his lessons. What we do is that he reads the first page of a chapter and then follows along as I read the rest of the chapter. His speed and word recognition are just growing by leaps and bounds.

On the subject of Isaac, it's gotten to where he clears his throat HARD every 5 minutes or less. Some of it seems to be related to how wound up he is but we're also wondering if he has some kind of allergy. He doesn't ever complain of a sore throat and doesn't ever cough junk up; it's just an almost constant clearing of his throat. Please pray we figure it out.

I learned something very interesting this week while reading The Second American Revolution (highly recommended) for Worldview. We all know that judges have seriously been abusing their power by ruling any law that he/she/they doesn't like 'unconstitutional'. When a judge has to rule either for or against a law enacted by the legislators it's called 'judicial review'. Did you know that the first time this was every done it was to deny the court a power? The Judiciary Act of 1801 gave the supreme court the power to issue a mandamus. A mandamus would compel the public official it was issued to to do some act that was within his duty. The first time someone sued for the court to do this was Marbury vrs. Madison. John Marshall was the Chief Justice then. The Court unamiously ruled that the mandamus section of the Judiciary Act of 1801 gave the court a right/power it shouldn't have and that it was therefore unconstitutional. Interesting, no? OH, and the next time judicial review was used was in the Dred Scott case and it was very much like today where the judges decided that their opinion was in the constitution; mainly that the constitution was not written nor intended for blacks and that the Missouri Compromise was unconstitutional.

I hate the cold and flu season! Every time I turn around someone has a headache or is coughing, sneezing, or feeling sick to their stomach. Right now Mama, BJ, and Ethan are all feeling sick. I was feeling sick this morning but I took sinus medicine, aspirin and my black elderberry and slept lots and now I feel fine.

Tomorrow I'm going to do Valentine's shopping. Yes, it will probaly get to some people late but who cares? (Not them, I hope.) This is rather unusual for me. Usually I don't go for sappy holidays plastered in pink hearts but somehow I actually am in the mood for it this year. Very strange. Maybe it's all the valentine cake decorating I've been watching Charla do.

I've never quite understood why people don't like working out. I understand having a hard time finding the time or having a hard time being consistent but the actual exercise always feels good, although sometimes in a sore, stiff kind of way. Running is satisfying, stretching is relaxing, and it's wonderful to watch everything get easier every week. It's gotten to were I feel off-kilter if I don't run and stretch regularly. Granted, I'm still only running 15 minutes and am ridiculously slow but at least I'm doing something and getting ever so slowly better at it. So I challenge all of y'all to start with just 10 minutes 4 days a week at whatever is the fastest pace you can go. Whenever that feels easy increase the amount. I promise you won't regret at least trying.

Good grief, that above paragraph sounds like a treadmill commercial. Didn't mean for it to come out that way.

Please pray for my Bible study Saturday. Specifically that I would say God's words not mine, that I would walk the talk, and that more girls will come. Thanks!

Ok, I gotta get to bed. The writing mood hit me this evening and I still feeling like writing pages more but I'm pretty sure Dad is turning into a pumpkin. Love y'all!
