Opinion of the day

Tips should not be added into your bill at restaurants. Tips should be entirely voluntary and the amount dependent on the customer's satisfaction. When gratuity is on your recept you no longer get to reward the waiter with really good service or express your dissatisfaction at the sloppy/rude/ fill-in-blank waiter. It also removes any desire to excell from the waiters. As long as they behave well enough to keep their job they're good. There's no fear of getting no tips and no desire to earn a big tip. Restaurants that make their waiters put all their tips together and then divide evenly totally destroy the merit system, too.
