Howdy folks! It is a very grey day here. I started to go running only to have it start sprinkling on me. Bleh.
I've been studying like mad for my three philosphers test. I'm feeling a lot more confident, but I would still appreciate your prayers.
Tonight is the last and third night of the revival meetings we've been having. Monday only Dad, Naomi, and Caleb went because we had karate. Tuesday night everybody but Samuel (who was working) and Mama (MNO) went, and tonight everybody will go. The speaker is Marty Brock. Last night he spoke on the blood of Christ-it's force, forgiveness, and how it was foretold all through the Old Testament. He had all his Scripture passages memorized (there were a lot of them!) and just preached around them. And there was great singing-tub band style only it was just him singing and his sister on the piano.
I wish I knew Scripture like some people do. I need to get back on track memorizing Scripture, too.
Warning: Political rant follows.
I keep hearing this phrase "I'm voting for Bush because he's an electable candidate and way better than Kerry. Bush is the lesser of two evils."
Why is that if someone doesn't have the same principles as you and has made some decisions you don't like that makes him evil? Bush is a pro-family (all that entails-school choice, marriage defense, pro-life, etc..), evangelical Christian. He's been tough on terror and he's not abusing his office. What is evil about him? I disagree with a lot of Bush has done (He hasn't vetoed one bill, he imposed steel tarrifs, he's spent WAY too much, the Patriot Act has enfringed on rights), but what are the chances of finding someone who agrees with you on even most of the major issues? There are a lot of other candidates who propose themselves as the third choice (Alan Keyes, constitutionalists, libertarians (sp?), etc..) But most of these people haven't been elected to anything, not even city dog-catcher! You need to start small (city councelman, state representitive), build a reputation and a base, and work your way up. And if we vote for that third guy we're going to split the vote and get Kerry (PANIC!) And if we did get one of those hard-core conservatives in the Oval office he wouldn't be able to do much because of our liberal legislature and activist judges. It needs to be a change of heart all the way across the nation.
I saw a political cartoon the other day that went along with this editorial headline "Passion of the parties" (or something to that effect). The cartoon showed the White House tied onto a rope. Playing tug-of-war over the white house were the democrats and republicans. The democrats are shown sweating, grunting, and working at it. The Republicans are shown just holding onto the rope with passive faces. What's sad is that it's true. We do not support our President like the opposition supports their candidate. We don't have the loyalty they have. We grumble and complain about Bush all the time. Grumblers aren't going to convince anyone to vote for their candidate. We need to be talking about the principles and character of Bush not griping.
End political rant.
End blog post.
