Whirlwind Wednesday

It started with waking up at 7 feeling very warm and comfortable and vaguely hearing BonnieJean saying something...Oh! Talking to me! Where's the power button for conscious thought? And the coherent speech button? Aha! From there morning routine went on until...

Departure for Worldview Class 8:23! Nicely dressed with hair done totally forgetting that today is Mismatch Day at co-op despite Sarah calling me yesterday telling me so. Driving along happily...Train! No problem, we left early, right? No! It stops on the crossing for almost 15 minutes. Shucks, we'll just have to go to QT for morning caffeine while we wait!

I turn on the radio while sipping my vanilla/chocolate cappucino (pure, hot, liquid caffeinated sugar with vanilla and chocolate flavorings. Delicious. Very bad for you.) and hear FDR saying 'A day that will in infamy...' Oh! Today is December 7th! 64 years ago we entered WWII with a navy that had barely survived Pearl Harbor and West Coast citizens expecting Japanese invasion at any moment. I then sadly thought of December 7th 2000 when I wondered what it would be like to wake up to a nation under attack. Even though we lost more people on 9/11 12/7 was more devastating because we practically lost one whole branch of our military. But I think that if we had had a weak president on 9/11, instead of Bush, it would have been worst. We would have been attacked inside our borders by a group with no borders, and we might as well have had no military with no one willing to command them. Sure, Congress would have talked tough because the whole nation was furious but they would have never stayed the course. Thank God for Dubya!

Class (9:10, 10 minutes late) was great, as usual. Got my essay back with an A. Oh yeah! Class was more discussion on Sophie's World, this time on the chapter about Judaism and the early church. He stated as fact that Messiah means 'anointed one' and that Jewish kings were called such because they were anointed to be king. We all raised eyebrows at that and wished that he had footnoted his sources for that fact. The two meanings of Messiah we were familiar with were 'He Who saves His people' or possibly 'the Promised One'. He also said that Jewish kings were called sons of God and the nation the Kingdom of God. Then we all wondered exactly what theology school Jostein Gaardener went to. Other than that he got things correct along the lines of Jesus' teaching, Biblical worldview, Paul's missionary journeys and teachings, etc.. I've only just gotten to the chapter on the Middle Ages but it sounds good. BTW, I do recommend this book. 'Tis a novel on the history of philophsy and is quite well written and understandable, which is very good for this little blonde.

Home at 10:30. I pack up Samuel's Christmas gift (3 dried toads) and get all depressed because he's not here. I then glare at Ethan for daring to feel sick enough to make Mama make him stay home from band practice 8 days before the concert! The poor guy wanted to go but them parents are most stubborn, particularly when you have symptoms of the flu. And he feels fine now but I guess it's better to err on the side of caution. I pack up Naomi and mine's band stuff and depart for band at 11.

Another train! This one takes 8 minutes to cross but at least it doesn't come to a complete stop.

For the past month the woodwinds have been basically ignored by Mr. R. at practices while he focuses on the trombones (pitiful) and fine tunes the trumpets (fairly good. Would be better if he worked with them more) while optimistically thinking that woodwinds and percussion will just get better with practice in plenty of time for the concert (Dec. 15th). 8 days before the concert he gives up on the trombones and turns around to the woodwinds-who, up till today, thought they were doing fine. I think we can get it polished up in time but his planning does get on my nerves sometimes.

Home at 1:30. We throw Mama, Joshua, and Isaac into the car to dash off to piano lessons. I eat lunch, read, do laundry, and practice violin.

3:35. Mama gets home trades piano boys for Dad, Ethan, and I and we take off to the chiropractor. Ethan and I had adjustments. Dad and Mama came to see my x-rays but the store did not get Dr. Dye his chemicals so he could develop the film. But they got to enjoy an in-depth conversation about insurance.

Home. Talk. Starts to snow. Talk. Laundry. Talk. Supper. Talk. Leave for choir practice at 6:20 with Dad driving because it's still snowing.

I have a solo part on my violin in O Come, O Come, Emmanuel this Sunday and the practice with the choir went great. Get out at 7:30 to slick roads. Very glad Dad is driving. Get home. Post blog. Get kicked off by Mama at 9:28.
